The maximum dimensions of sliding terrace windows depend on, among other things: profiles (PVC or aluminum), the type of sliding system, and whether the sash is operable or fixed.
PVC sliding patio windows – maximum dimensions
PVC sliding systems (e.g., PSK or HST) are very popular in single-family homes due to their excellent thermal insulation. They can be used to construct wide structures as well as structures several meters high. However, it’s worth noting that the maximum dimensions of doors manufactured with white PVC profiles may be larger than those manufactured with colored profiles. The total door area is also important – for colored structures, the maximum is 7.5 m², and for white structures, it is 8 m².
Multiple doors can be used to create very large terrace glazing. Take the VEKAMOTION 82 lift-and-slide door system as an example. Two-, three-, and four-leaf doors can be combined, with a total width of up to 6.5 m and a height of up to 2.7 m.
- Height of sliding patio doors with PVC profiles: standard up to approx. 2.4 m, HST systems with increased stiffness up to approx. 2.6 m.
- Width of sliding patio doors with PVC profiles: one sliding leaf up to 3 m, double-leaf construction up to approx. 4-5 m, maximum (HST systems) up to approx. 6.5 m total width.
Aluminum sliding patio windows – maximum dimensions
Aluminum is a material with greater stiffness and durability than PVC, making it ideal for modern panoramic glazing. Sleek profiles create a glass wall effect and maximize interior lighting.
- Height of patio doors with aluminum profiles – approx. 3 m
- Width of terrace doors with aluminum profiles – single leaf approx. 3 m; multi-leaf systems up to 10 m.
Why does aluminum allow for such large dimensions?
- very high profile stiffness,
- resistance to deformation and temperature changes,
- the possibility of using narrow frames and mullions.
PVC or aluminum – what to choose?
PVC – a good choice for standard terraces and balconies, where excellent thermal insulation and a favorable price are key.
Aluminum – ideal for large glazing, modern architecture, and projects where size, design, and maximum light are essential.
Please note that the dimensions provided are approximate. Final options depend on the specific design, window system, and installation conditions. Therefore, before making a decision, it is advisable to consult the project with an experienced technical advisor at the company from which the windows will be ordered.
